Questions and
Answers Brochure #1 PDF
Q: How is it used?
A: For weight
loss, physical therapy, athletic
training, aerobic -
cardiovascular conditioning, orthopedic
rehabilitation and a wide variety of conditions ranging
from pregnancy fitness to arthritis.
Q: Aren't all treadmills pretty much the same?
A: No! Orbiter is the only treadmill that
qualifies as a "low impact treadmill". Orbiter Treadmills
are unique, and their uniqueness is protected by a number
U.S. and foreign patents. There are currently additional
Orbiter patents which are "Patent Pending" and more are
expected to be filed in the near future. Orbiter's
proprietary technology is more expensive but it protects
users from high impact shock better than any other
treadmill, running track or exercise shoe can.
Questions and
Answers Brochure #2 PDF
Q: How far down into the surface do I go? Is that
OK?
A: Just far enough for perfect deceleration so your body is
protected from impact shock. Orbiters have been used day in,
day out by many of the worlds greatest professional athletes
and sports team organizations since 1989. Some of the top
rehabilitation centers in the world have been using Orbiter
for nearly that long with great results.
Q: Why doesn't my health club have Orbiter
treadmills?
A: Health club managers know if they bought a couple of
Orbiters that their members would soon stop using the other
treadmills and want them to replace them with Orbiters. This
has happened a number of times. Orbiter treadmills are a
higher technology and therefore cost more to manufacture
than other treadmills. Even though health clubs often are
very profitabl, they don't want their profits reduced by
purchasing what they view is an 'unnecessary expense'.
'Unnecessary' because health clubs know that their members
will use the hard surface treadmills or the ellipticals - as
long as their members aren't aware there is something better
(Orbiter low impact treadmills) available. Orbiter
treadmills are a quantum leap better for your body, but the
price tag is sometimes prohibitive in the competitive health
club industry..
Questions and
Answers Brochure #3 PDF
Q: Why isn't Orbiter sold in stores?
A: See above.
Q: Why is it called an 'Orbiter'?
A: Orbiter, the word, means "something that orbits, or flies
above a planet or moon, without landing on it." Back in the
1988 we were searching for a word that best described this
unique machine. When users walk or run on the Orbiter, they
do not contact hard, unyielding surfaces. We hope you like
'Orbiter' as much as we do. This time, the name truly fits
the product.
Questions and
Answers Brochure #4 PDF
Q: Why do you you have the Moon in your logo?
A: The gravitational forces on the Moon are less than on
those Earth. Impact levels on the Orbiter are so much less
than other treadmills that the term 'quantum leap' is
an appropriate description of the difference. Comparing the
Moon's G-Forces to those on Earth is roughly equivalent to
comparing Impact Shock levels on the Orbiter to those on
other treadmills. Please see Orbiter
logo.
Q: Is the Orbiter treadmill really better for you than
other treadmills?
A: Many treadmills today claim to absorb impact.
Orbiter absorbs and dissipates enough impact to make walking
and running comfortable. Orbiters are so much more
comfortable than other treadmills that users are stunned the
first time they try one, often saying something like, "I
didn't know anything like this existed; it feels like
running on a cloud. My legs have never felt this
good..."
Q: Will I still be excited about my new treadmill a
year from now?
A: If you buy an Orbiter you will be even more excited
about it a year from now. We know that in comparison tests
performed by:
- Health
Clubs
- Rehabilitation Centers
- Corporate Fitness Programs
- Professional Sports Teams
that the Orbiter was reported to be preferred over other
treadmills consistently, and by huge margins. Ninety-five
percent (95%) preferred Orbiter (over the other treadmill)
in one rehab center, according to the center's director. One
research study in an orthopedic rehabilitation setting had
to be abandoned when the control group of patients refused
to use the other treadmill, after speaking with enthusiastic
patients in the "Orbiter group".
Q: I really want is to run, but if I "just walk" my
problems with impact will be over. Right?
A: If you believe that switching from running to walking
will eliminate your problems with impact,
try these tests:
Test #1
Gently press the palms of your hands over your ears, and
start walking at a normal walking pace...
Hear that booming?
Impact shock waves have traveled the length of your body.
Much of the shock has been absorbed by the time it gets
to your head, but you can still easily hear it pounding!
Your joints, bones and soft tissues are impact's
unfortunate shock absorbers. Imagine how
loud that pounding is in your feet,
ankles, knees, hips and lower back!
Want to try something really scary?
Test #2
Slowly increase your walking speed to a jogging, then to
a running pace...
BOOM - BOOM - BOOM...!
Comparison Test
Do those tests on treadmills other than the Orbiter and
you'll hear pretty much the same "Boom Boom Boom"
pounding. Put Orbiter to the test, and you'll
wonder...
Q: "Where did the pounding go?"
A: The pounding went into Orbiter. Not into you.
Orbiter's suspended rubber surface absorbs your body's
first moment of shock, then the after momentarily
dissipates the after shock impact, before converting it
into Energy Return which you experience as a gentle rear
foot lift. At walking speeds, this experience is pleasant
and fluid. At jogging and running speeds ordinary people
can experience exhilarating airborne propulsion usually
reserved for Olympic sprinters.
Q: With the impact being so much less on the Orbiter,
do I still receive as good a workout as I do on a track or
other treadmill?
A: BETTER! You process significantly more oxygen while
training on an Orbiter than you do on other treadmills. Your
heart works harder too. The results of an independent study
were published in the Journal of Cardiopulmonary
Rehabilitation. Email
us your address and we'll send you a copy.
Q: What about other gym equipment like stationery
bikes, cross country ski devices, stair climbers & those
new elliptical motion machines? Don't they protect me from
impact too?
A: You mean those 'impact avoiders'? These machines
provide low or no impact exercise by putting you through a
predetermined factory-set range of motions. You cannot walk
or run on any these machines. Orbiter allows you to walk and
run naturally, in your normal gait, free of any constraints
or controls. Once you've trained on an Orbiter you'll never
want to go back to 'impact
avoiders'.
Q: I went to a sporting goods store the other day and
looked at treadmills. Almost every one of these treadmills
said it had some method for absorbing shock. I even saw one
somewhere that promised you could drop an egg on the surface
and it wouldn't break. What gives?
A: That clever egg demo sold a lot of treadmills. Please
tell the person who wrote that ad to call or email us. We
might have some work for them.
For your information the average jumbo size chicken egg
weighs in around two and one half ounces (we weighed it
ourselves). Now, if you weighed 2 1/2 ounces you probably
wouldn't need a shock absorbing treadmill - at least not on
Earth. As for the treadmills touting 'shock absorbing
surfaces', 'floating beds', 'impact free', 'low impact',
etc., we say this:
You get what you pay for. The best
technology - that can REALLY reduce (almost eliminate)
impact shock to a safe non factor while you run as
fast or walk - does not come cheap. If you still think
that any of these other treadmills has any significant
shock absorbing benefit, we suggest you do the
tests described on this page. Run on that
treadmill. Run BAREFOOT on that treadmill. Then try an
Orbiter. There is no comparison. There
is only one Orbiter treadmill.
Q: I'm interested in losing
weight. Can buying an Orbiter help me?
A: The often quoted, published and republished 1996 study
performed at the University of Wisconsin found that persons
using conventional treadmills burned significantly more
calories than did persons using other kinds of workout
equipment such as bikes, stair climbers and ski machines.
Since the Orbiter's aerobic and cardiovascular user workload
is much greater than other treadmills, your weight loss
program should be accelerated.
Also, when you own an Orbiter you
won't have to take time off to nurse sore knees and
other parts of your body that are constantly pounded
on by hard surface high impact shock. If you only pick
up an extra two or three workouts a month (by
switching to an Orbiter) you could be talking about
burning thousands more calories.
Q: What do the pros
say about Orbiter?
A: Professional athletes & trainers have told us
they like and prefer the Orbiter because they say it:
- Saves their legs for actual competition.
- Helps reduce down time from injury.
- Helps improve their balance and coordination.
- Helps to optimize and extend athletic careers.
